I've watched the disintegration of our educational system for over 30 years.....Common Core will finish it off. This is as "wrong-headed" as you can get -- nothing more than 'teaching to the test.'

Dear Representative,
I would like to thank you for your continued support of Tennessee's education. HOWEVER. I am outraged at your support of the Common Core State Standards which are dramatically LOWERING the bar in the classroom and NOT preparing our students for post-secondary education and the workforce. These standards are ridiculous and without directions more than 90% of the time, particularly in Knox County, where the homework is sent home after having NOT covered it in class. You are testing children at every corner ON MATERIAL THEY HAVEN'T EVEN COVERED. You're adding steps to SIMPLE MATH that don't follow any logical thinking. You're giving work to children that they shouldn't be seeing for several years, in some cases. And some of the material uses highly offensive words like PIMP in them. Would YOU like to explain to your 1st grader what a PIMP is? I didn't think so.
Change is, of course, difficult, but you can't argue with the thousands of parents that see HOW RIDICULOUS and BIG BUSINESS this program is. GET RID OF IT. This will RUIN our children. When they think they aren't smart enough to know the material THAT THEY HAVEN'T COVERED SO HOW COULD THEY?! It puts them into low self-esteem/suicidal watch threats. They lose confidence. Learning then isn't fun it's stressful and children then don't even want to learn or go to school. Everyday you have put ELEMENTARY school students under EXTREME ANXIETY from this program, thinking they aren't smart enough to get it when the teachers can't even teach it because it makes NO SENSE. Have you EVEN LOOKED at the material?! THESE KIDS ARE THE FUTURE. YOU owe it to them to ensure that they graduate school with a head full of knowledge NOT FULL OF DOUBT AND CONFUSION. Stop this madness in its tracks and reject THE CORPORATIONS who have created this Cluster and show them that the children MATTER!! I URGE you. Think of what this program will do to the future of this country. Do you really want to have children t

Common Core needs to go as does all of the testing done in this state. Education has become one test after another.

It is not an issue of raising standards that bothers me with common core, it is the use of money that is NOT going to our classrooms and students but to publishers making huge profits with this common core sales pitch. We should not be throwing taxpayer money in their pockets. As a teacher, I can tell you that the testing is out of control and is taking away from class time and is turning our students into burned out shells. I have seen a tremendous drop in the thinking ability of students these past 10 years - this excessive testing has put the emphasis on scores and test prep. Wise politicians would listen to the teachers and parents, not the slick business sales pitches. Wake up. We need statesmen, not politicians.

Please reconsider Common Core. It is bringing students down to a common level of mediocrity. The associated PARCC Test is costing millions which could be better spent on direct needs such as up to date textbooks and technology needs.

I oppose the common core for both the data collection and the catering to the average student. As someone who was always looking for a challenge when I was in school, I feel that the better than average students will suffer by not being properly challenged at their level.

Common core is turning students into robots instead of teaching students to think for themselves. Put educators in charge of knowing what children need to learn and how instead of a bunch of politicians.

Give us back local control of our children's education. You don't buy a car or a house or anything sight unseen, yet that's what happened with CC. Worse, it was greed over money that accepted the "bribe" before ever seeing curriculum. If you have to be paid to take a product that you haven't seen, how much worse must that product be?
Common Core is not what is best for our children.
