How dare you take away from the childrens education and force this on them. Especially on the Special Education population. How about you focus on what's really wrong in the schools and that's not enough money to fund all the needs of the students and being able to afford to keep schools open and their needs met!!! I vote to STOP YOUR common core that YOU want in New York!!!

Not necessarily. I'm in an advanced placement class and we took a "Vocabulary Test," if you can call defining a simple term and having to draw a picture of it. (Side-note: How am I supposed to draw the word implied?) That idiotic test took time out of my IMPORTANT class, for this nonsense Common Core test. The teachers don't know what to do with it after we take the test. We're fed. up with the tests. The politicians don't know what's going on in the classroom. These tests do nothing and make no sense. They're pointless. It's a waste of our time. My advanced placement literature class ends in May, two days, thankfully not more due to the fact we get a "pass" because we're not a English 4, have been wasted. We have no time to waste. I'm trying to pass my examination in May and get college credit. I do not wake up to go to school to take pointless exams. I go to school to learn.

Since this curriculum came about partly thru Bill Gates Foundation Maybe it is better suited to "gifted" students who may think like him or even be used in special education because those students need to take extra steps to reach a conclusion. Students need to be taught as individuals by individuals according to their learning styles and not treated like mind-numbed robots.

Common Core is age inappropriate, a corporate backed plan to undermine the public school system, and is only being implemented to privatize education and line the pockets of the corporate backers.

I do believe in a set of standards but not at the cost of teaching children above their developmental level. Just because you "raise" the standards doesn't mean children who are 8 years old can now solve problems originally designed for 13 and 14 year olds. And the math standards or not designed to teach math. They are designed to see if children can sift through a series of trick questions that even adults have to debate over. On top of that, Special Education students and ELL students need to be given an amended test that tests the same criteria but delivered in a different way. We are ruining our education system and causing our children anxiety and hatred toward learning.

Strongly oppose the Common Core standards. Everything I've seen about them provides for illogical thought processes and / or a very controlled set of materials. Teachers are losing their ability to educate...if we create robots out of the teachers they will produce robots of their students. I, for one, care more about letting teachers re-kindle their passion to teach and have mine and your children reap the benefits in stronger, more well-rounded students. Big government, with your cozy relationship to liberal, corporate America, PLEASE BUTT OUT OF MY CHILD's EDUCATION!!!

When the mechanics at the facility I work at are calculating some tolerance on a pump I want them to get the right answer and quickly. I don't want them spending 20 minutes drawing circles with hash marks in 108 steps to to a simple mathematical calculation that should be solved in a simple two step system. There are some things that just need to be memorized. multiplication tables and simple mathematical algorithms among them

I am from Upsate NY and I am currently in 9th grade about to take a bunch of common core tests. All I know is I hate it, they expect way to much out of us and it stresses me out to the breaking point. It pushes me to want to drop out and give up, but I don't want to be one of the kids that get a GED or what ever its called now. I want to graduate! These common core standards just make me feel like theres no hope, school is no longer fun at all. It especially does not help that students do not have a somewhat of a say over a sub who takes over for a great teacher who goes to have a baby. My math grade as dropped tremendously and I take math common core tomorrow... I don't have hope but we will see. Thanks messed up common core for putting all this stress on us kids... Hope we have a better governor very soon. Funny part is, people thing a 9th grader has no clue what they are taking about when it comes to common core, well I do, and I can't stand you Governor Como. Once again, thanks for making most people want to drop out and feel like theres no hope to graduate. From: Angry Student.

if our kids are coming home as stressed as an adult, clearly something is wrong
