When I was in school I learned standard algorithm from the start and I continue to use it til this day. My son is in 5th grade and is now being introduced to standard algorithm. I showed him an example of a common core math problem and he couldn't remember how to do it. He walked away saying it doesn't make sense! How could he have forgotten this so quickly? Its because it doesn't make sense! You know what the Common Core Standards are? it a government hostile take over of the Education system. Granted there was plenty wrong with the Education system in New York City. For the life of me I couldn't understand why NYC had so many failing schools. I agree that something had to be done. But the Common Core isn't the answer! Kids are confused and miserable and so are the teachers! I can recall so many teachers that I had the pleasure of learning from growing up. Teachers that I looked up to,who made me feel like family; teachers who help shape the course of my life. And my son will never experience having that connection with his teachers, he will never look back and remember any particular educator.Why? BECAUSE THE COMMON CORE STRIPS THE TEACHERS ABILITY TO DO WHAT THEY WERE TRAINED TO DO WHICH IS TO TEACH! TO INSPIRE, TO ENCOURAGE THEIR STUDENTS IDEAS AND CREATIVITY!!!The Common Core is disturbing our children's ability to learn in a way they feel comfortable learning. NO TWO CHILDREN LEARN A LIKE!!!! Common Core isn't challenging their ability to critically think! STOP THIS ROBOTIC WAY OF LEARNING! STOP THIS FAST TRACK LEARNING! STOP THE COMMON CORE!!!!!
