Everything I hear from my local librarian, local teachers and parents has me terrified about my son's educational future. He is only two years old and I am already looking into private schools to avoid this total mistake and destruction of our educational system. STOP COMMON CORE NOW!!!

I invite you Mr. Governor to my home and to my children's classrooms to see first hand how this effects our students. Don't make this call from your office, please visit some local schools and families and truly understand how parents feel about what government has done to education.

The damage these testing standards will be long ranging for not just our teachers, but our children with an enormous chain reaction negative outcomes. End this please , before more of our kids are taught to hate what is mistaken for learning in our schools.

No child is the same and teachers need creative control to teach our children. Common Core is illegal, has no facts to support that this is indeed a great teaching method, sitting in front of a computer for hours isn't anyway to learn. Our children shouldn't just be a number in a database and teachers shouldn't be recognized as good or bad based on computer data.

There are no words to adequately describe my disgust with this whole issue. I feel as if I might as well home school my daughter, as I feel as if i have to "re-teach" her the lessons at the kitchen table every night as I help her with her homework anyway. My daughter has always been a good student, and still is, but her level of enthusiasm and being engaged in the material is fading rapidly. We MUST do something about this, and do it quickly, or we will be making up for a lot of lost time. As it is, I have to use iPad apps to teach her grammar and punctuation lessons, as this instruction is virtually non-existent in the current curriculum.
The methods of "teaching" these lessons might as well be called "facilitating" Students are increasingly expected to get the answers on their own using "reasoning" and "critical thinking" - without the proper prior instruction, discussion and application. Our childrens' self-esteem is at issue here. Call me crazy, but its been my experience and observation that reasoning and critical thinking happen as a natural process as we explore, learn, discuss, apply. Let's focus more on letting our teachers help our children explore, learn, discuss and apply. Teaching my child how to take a test is not teaching, it's treating her like a number...like a means to an end for the teachers to keep their jobs and the districts to receive funding. It makes me sick.
And, to all you teachers out there, it IS possible to use your own reasoning and critical thinking to get a little creative here. Don't let the agencies hold you hostage as they are doing to our children. Decide what you believe is the essence of good teaching and follow that. Your students will still be able to pass the tests, probably even more so!

The Common Core Standards are ludicrous to say the very least! I have 2 children; a third grader and fifth grader! My fifth grader has been an honor student all through school and last year had a 95 avg. in Math; this year he is in an AIS Math class because he fell just "below" the state standards! NYS is making our children sick, frustrated, depressed and are losing any self confidence they had by the day ~ which infuriates me as a Mom!
FIX THIS NYS AND DO AWAY WITH THE NOT SO "COMMON CORE" STANDARDS!

Our poor children are suffering having this Common Core just thrown at them. Children who loved math now hate math and seeing issues with other peoples' children developing school avoidance issues where there was none before Common Core. Home work given to our children that parents can't help them with because they don't understand it.Where does that leave our children....alienated!

My son is in Kindergarten. I am a well educated person. I am against the core curriculum after seeing a handful of assignments that include poorly written directions with ideas & conclusions that are simply wrong, and/or untrue. I can't imagine who WROTE the core curriculum. Did anyone ask a literate person to assist in the writing of the assignments? For this reason alone, I completely object to common core. It is truly inferior education.

Since last year, all I hear from every teacher my son had & currently has is that the curriculum standard has been raised. OK……but there is an issue when every single teacher states that they feel it is too difficult for kids. Just today we had back Parent / Teachers conference. All these Teachers seem to not be prepared for this change & the children are unfortunately paying the price. Work is literally just being thrown at them with no-one to assist in learning the task. Teachers are not prepared! All kids learn differently & some will grasp, while others will fall behind. This is nothing new. I truly hate to see my son struggle with certain work that is not properly taught in school, It is very visible that he is getting discouraged. Social Studies is now combined with Literacy?
Work that is given to him have the format & vocabulary words of a collage class, with no one teaching him the definitions. How is he supposed to understand what he reads, to then be tested on elaborating the content with no guidence at school?!?! He attempts to complete work by giving the best answer he could or sometimes having to guess the answer with a “one liner”, only be told it is completely wrong & that “this is not 7th grade work.” Very frustrating to him that he get's to the point of saying "I can't do this." It's so hurtful to see your child just give up.
Me & my wife sit with him as much as possible during homework sessions, but we are not teachers & are not aware of the proper techniques in teaching, yet alone understand most of the work itself. We feel like we're back in school as well. Good thing for the internet! We are considering a weekend tutor, but lately the hourly cost have been increasing. Also, when would be there time for just being a kid?!
I'm all for raising the curriculum, but it has to be done gradually! Our children are being used guinea pigs. To hear that it’s going to take years to perfect? Possibly the Common Core will be perfected in the future, but at
