My son is borderline gifted and a very creative thinker. He spent over an hour doing 3 problems not because he didn't know the answer, but because he didn't want to do it the way the common core wanted it done. I was a teacher of mathematics and on what planet does it make sense to force all kids to solve problems the same way. This is going to ruin our creative thinkers.

As a teacher for more than 36 years, I am enraged! Common Core is NOT teaching, it's indoctrination of our children. I urge everyone to educate themselves and make their own decision.

My children are 15 6 and 5 they have our children working to the bone and are only allowed a 10 minute recess by the time the children have there coats and hats on it is pointless to even walk out of the class. I dont know what is going on but I myself know that all children learn through play my kids are little in huge classes of 27 kids with one teacher.

Governor Cuomo, and Education Commissioner King need to get a grip. We are putting undo stress on 5 and 6 year olds. Learning does not only take place in the class, life is where learning begins.
The Education Department seems to be saying there is no place for regular people, only scholars...the world would collapse in on itself. Artists, musicians, poets are all deemed as failures to this current Administration. An electrician, a plumber...all paths of the past if they get their way.
Use Common Sense...not Common Core!

My grand daughter is in kindergarten , i'm appalled at what she is bringing home . The standards are highly inappropriate for five year olds. I am a special educator.

Teachers need to be in control and have creativity and flexibility in the curriculum they teach. Children need space and time to access their own inherent creativity and wisdom; we need to be raising happy and healthy children that can think independently and critically. Being good at multiple choice tests does not equate to intelligence.

These aren't the reasons why I'm against common core but if it will get the core out so be it. The cc makes stressed out kindergarteners and chips away at their self confidence and prevents any gym, freestyle learning and kids being kids.
