The CC is hard on everyone. We have a child on the spectrum, high functioning. Not only does he work hard all day in school, but has to work hard at home just so he can try to stay on task. Show him the old way of learning and he does great!!!!!

I graduated from RIT with a BS in Mathematics. Of course we did not have common core back then (1985). Thank god for that!!! I have never seen a more half assed backward approach to teaching math. This method goes around and around the final problem, adding unneeded steps and makes the kids even more confused

our children are much more than a test score.Give them the freedom to really learn and have fun doing it.My 10 year old son is so stressed out with all this school work that as a parent I feel that this is another form of child abuse.

My child has ADHD and she struggles as it is. The common core is way too stressful. This needs to be stopped!

we have had to look into hiring a tutor because my daughter is not getting sufficient teaching in class. Thanks to common core my daughter was gone from high 90s average to failing. Common core allows no time for student teacher interaction. I can not imagine how a program like this was ever thought to have been "a good idea". I am honestly "Pissed Off" that this is being done to my child. My wife and I have are considering moving to a state without common core or even Canada.

Not only are parents confused, but the children are as well. These crazy methods take too long to work out (math). Poor kids can't even be kids anymore...I learned the old school way and I survived.

This CC agenda makes me sick. My nine year old daughter has had anxiety, even woken up in the night after having "nightmares" of failing her math homework. SERIOUSLY? There's nothing wrong with the old way. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!!

My children (6th grade and 8th) are pushed so hard they are exhausted every day. There is no time for play. Which medical science has show is required for good mental, emotional and physical health. From the moment they leave in the morning (6:50 AM) to the time the return (2:50 PM) is an eight hour day. Why should 11 and 13 year old children be putting in the hours of a full time adult? My children, who do love to learn, hate school. When good students start hating school, then there is a problem.

I never thought I would consider homeschooling then I found out about common core and I've thought about it a lot. I'd rather my children be taught by trained professionals but I don't want them taught this way. What happened to work smarter not harder?? Most of the problems I've seen make no sense at all......

Common Core is pushing topics that are too mature for our children. Expectations are being set too high for our children and stressing them out. Common Core English doesn't even let our children be independent thinkers. They are forced to all think alike.

The frustration and tears I see in my child's eyes is enough to make me want to move mountains!!! We would stand in front of our children and protect them from those who would do them harm...this is no different.

I learned Math the way it was taught for hundreds of years and never had a problem. I did very well on the SATs, well in college Calc and continue to use math fundamentals daily.
Reinventing the wheel doesn't make any sense with Common Core math. You're throwing out the simple fundamentals of mathematics and making a story out of something that should take 2 seconds to do. In a world that's already shifted towards doing everything faster, the fundamental behind all the technology (math) is being taught to go slower, with more complex unnecessary steps?
This approach is backwards and is only going to make things more difficult for kids, who will just give up and use the calculator on their iPad. It needs to stop now.

I believe that Common Core will harm our children. It will not let them to like, understand, or succeed in school. The Education System in NY will be destroyed. I am totally against it. I have 14 and 11 years old children and I worry very much for their future.

Seriously, I can't believe more people aren't signing this petition. My ten year old writes me notes that say "I HATE MY LIFE" because of his MATH HOMEWORK. Thanks NYS Common Core, because of the load of homework he has every night and the stress of being lost in his Math class we have even less time together as a family now than ever. But you know...whatever is more important. I know we have to keep up with the Jones', so to speak. Jerks.

I used to think common core was great until I saw it for myself. This is bad, very, very bad. I see this and I am afraid of what it may mean. Please don't allow common core to be made curriculum in New York. I'm begging you.
