Some of you might already be aware that the Government of Gibraltar have decided to close the old airport pay car park. Rumour has it that this parking will instead be used by private firm/s for parking of coaches/mini buses. The closure of this public parking is planned to take place at the end of this month (30thJanuary 2014).

Hundreds of people use this car park on a daily basis. You have the persons that need semi long term parking whilst travelling abroad, many workers (many forced to live in Spain due to high property purchase and rental prices in Gibraltar) that are parking in Gibraltar in order to avoid the excessive frontier queues being experienced of late, there are the ones that need to nip into Spain for many different reasons and need to park their vehicles close-by and walk across (again, to avoid the long waits to get across on wheels), and the list goes on.

If this car park is removed for public use, I foresee big problems for many. Unfortunately, there is only a very limited allocated area close to the border (situated on the outskirts of the new airport parking) for motorcycles to park. As to parking for cars, I am not aware of any alternative area where people could park their cars close-by.

I would therefore like to request to the Government of Gibraltar that they reconsider this matter and either abort their plans or put into place an urgent alternative solution.

I am sure that many share my same views and concerns therefore, I would urge anyone that agrees to the above, to sign this petition. Please share amongst your family and friends to spread the word.

I would also love to hear your views, comments and suggestions on this. I know that some of you might have very strong views with regards to the current tense frontier situation with Spain however, I kindly request that we don’t deviate too much from the subject at hand.

Thank you for your time and hope that together, we can do this!

The government is finally feeling the heat because this momentum shows they cannot just bulldoze our community for their handpicked private firms. They think they can ignore us but the pressure is mounting and we are not going anywhere.

Why do not they help citizens instead of difficulting us more that we have to cope with the never ending queues? We have a life in Gibraltar, but because of work I have to cross to spain almost every day. I am tired of consulting through internet the pedestrian, bikes and car queues.. Please do not close this car park!

We use that parking every time we go to uk,it's near enough to park and leave your car there for 2 weeks, also quite near for your, when you have to carry your suitcase from airport to the car or vise versa

Utterly thoughtless. People cannot cross the border by car due to the queues: now the Government makes it impossible to park near the border. Many cross, some with small children: now they will have to walk across the airport as well, through the wind and the rain.

Please don't shut this carpark the one at the new airport is too small and expensive if you are popping into La Linea for a couple of hours. Why are you getting rid of so much parking in Gibraltar?

I would not be able to go from the multi storey to the frontier in mid winter or height of summer, and neither would any of our senior citizens.
