We, the community members of St. Thomas University, University of New Brunswick and New Brunswick Community College, petition the administration of the University of New Brunswick to officially name the path that links the campuses. This trail has no formal name so people have come to call it “the rape trail". This perpetuates the idea that women are raped in dark places at night by strangers and women should fear the trail. 
We are told that girls should never walk the trail alone because it is "the rape trail". Furthermore, by calling it “the rape trail” in normal conversation it desensitizes people to rape; it becomes an ordinary aspect of campus life. All of this perpetuates the rape culture and victim blaming. By officially naming the trail with a positive name, it will discourage the rape culture discourse.
