The administration confirmed this morning that the Confederate flag is now prohibited on school property. I have received written verification from the district office that the policy change is effective immediately. We will continue to monitor the parking lot to ensure this standard is maintained throughout the semester.

The flying of the Confederate Flag in the chiles high school parking lot needs to stop. The admin took down a banner promoting hemp products for the environment saying that it "makes the school look bad." Does flying the hateful rebel flag not make the school look worse? The school already has the right to search our cars without permission, so why do they claim they are not allowed to enforce a rule stopping this flag from flying? It's time for admin to stop this. The school reserves the right to restrict free speech.

We are approaching one hundred signatures and need to reach this threshold before I deliver our formal request to the school board. Please verify you have sent the link to others who can add their names so we maintain momentum for our scheduled meeting with administration.

There is no reason for the confederate flag to be waved around, especially toward African American students in a blatantly disrespectful manner. There is no heritage to be celebrated with that flag, only slavery and a war the south lost.

I believe in free speech and believe that people should be allowed to fly the flag if they want to but it shouldn't be allowed on school campus especially if they don't allow a poster about hemp LOL

This is despicable. This is not what we send our children to school for. I am shocked and appalled for any administrator, faculty member, or leon county official who thinks that this is acceptable at our schools.

I was a student of color at that school and despite the claims of "pride" behind the flags we all know that the history behind them is racist and this is intentional in the large majority of cases.

This flash is extremely offensive and represents hate. These symbols have no place in public space paid for by tax dollars. Student should be able to obtain and education in a space free of harassment.

I believe it to be racially insensitive and reckless, considering the current political and social climate and it promotes a lack of respect for fellow Americans that deem it oppressive.

As a member of the first graduating class of Chiles, I am truly disappointed in this.
