What's concerning is that a parent thinks it would be a good idea to comment on a petition like this, especially when you call students at the school "racists". Racism wasn't a big issue at Chiles until this petition came out, considering people brought Confederate flags to school two or three times the entire year before this, and the moment the petition went live the flags were everywhere. Maybe instead of commenting on a stupid petition, you could utilize your time better by working to make money so you can feed your family, like a normal parent.

The conference glad can be offensive and shouldn't be allowed on school property. It distracts the children from their education has instead makes them focus on their differences.

YOU are promoting hate by supporting this petition. Everything was fine until this petition came along. It has caused irrational thinking, property damage, and hostility between students. This whole thing needs to be shut down before something really bad happens.

I love how you assume that all of the people supporting the flag are male. I'm not saying that the people that had the flags on their trucks aren't all guys, but to label all of the supporters as "young men" is sexist and repugnant.

I understand where both sides are coming from, but I personally believe that there is nothing wrong with people flying the confederate flag. Quick History lesson: The Confederate flag that was flown at Chiles Isn't even the Confederate flag!!! Its the battle flag of Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia, which was never officially considered a Confederate flag! Furthermore, Robert E. Lee, according to http://civilwarhome.com/leepierce.htm, he wrote a letter on December 27, 1856, and stated that viewed slavery as a "moral and political evil." Also, when it says in this petition's description "The school already has the right to search our cars without permission, so why do they claim they are not allowed to enforce a rule stopping this flag from flying?", I hope you know that searching cars and flying Confederate flags are two completely different things. The school has every right to search a car that is parked on THEIR campus whether they have a warrant or not. It doesn't matter if there is nothing in the car, they can search it any time they want. They're obligated to tell you this before you get a parking spot. Flying a Confederate flag is a first amendment right, but if it causes a disturbance, technically the school can have you take it down. Why do you think all those trucks had Trump, American, Republican, and "Don't tread on me" flags the other day? They were told to take them down because it caused a disturbance. However, you know what really caused the disturbance? THIS PETITION!!! People didn't care about the Confederate flag thing until this petition came out. Now everyone is picking sides, and the side that started the petition against the flag caused all of the disturbances, including the one today with peoples trucks being keyed. The people with the flags are just demonstrating their first amendment rights. Freedom of petition is also a first amendment right, but you can't play dirty by damaging property and wreaking havoc to try and get signatur

Someone needs to explain to these young men the history behind the Confederate flag. Obviously their parents have passed this view on which is so sad. Racism is a cancer.

When a symbol such as the confederate flag is used to express hate, it becomes a symbol of hate. Doesn't matter the history of the flag. Which of course the confederate flag has a long history of being used by segregation groups and hate groups.
