I have been in correspondence with local traffic authorities regarding the increased volume of vehicles passing through our neighborhood. The testimonials shared here regarding the safety of our streets are being compiled into a formal report to present at the next planning meeting.

The response to our request for safer streets in Stoneybrook has been substantial and reflects the urgency of this safety issue. This momentum confirms that our neighborhood is united in the pursuit of a lower speed limit for our children.

Cut the speed limit now! Tired of people flying through here just to save 30 seconds.
its getting way too dangerous to walk the dog or let my kids play outside. people treat our street like a nascar track every morning to beat the commute traffic.
Wanted to share my discussion with the DOT rep I spoke with today, we have several possibilities. The DOT will be out here to do a speed assessment within the next two weeks. If you are interested in the attachments shoot me an email and I will forward them to you, [email protected] Here is his email response: Michelle, I’m glad we got to talk today and here is a list of things to follow up on our conversation: · I’m working to verify the limits of NCDOT maintenance on Stoney Brook (SR 1878) and the surrounding roads. My present map looks like this (purple lines = NCDOT maintained roads): § · I’m attaching 3 documents – a speed limit brochure, a traffic calming device brochure, and a road addition petition form · This link (http://planningdevelopment.nhcgov.com/us/staff/) has the contact information for Sam Burgess. I believe he will be a good person to speak with about the question of a gate or other restrictive measure across a private road in New Hanover County.
