Eleven women in Chhattisgarh have died from mass #sterilisation and 52 are in critical conditions. The Chief Minister has suspended Chief Medical Officer and 3 others and announced a relief of 2 lakhs. This is not a sincere attempt for justice.

We demand:

1) The CM & health minister should take responsibility for the deaths.

2) Immediately revise the insensitive, patriarchal policy of encouraging tubectomies.

3) Arrange for the upbringing of the children the women have left behind.

Updates

November 12, 2014

The stories coming in from families left behind are heartbreaking and confirm that this tragedy is far from over. I am currently working on a demand package for the health ministry to ensure these women receive actual accountability rather than just a check.

Seeing this kind of movement brings me back to the faces of the families who are still waiting for a real apology. This momentum reminds me that their loss is not something the state can just brush aside with a check.

यह ग्रामीण भारत में जिस तरह से हम लोंगों की परेशानी को देखते है उसी का नतीजा है. शर्म की बात है की इतने लोंगो के मौत की जिम्मेदारी सरकार नहीं ले रही है.

It is not merely Bilaspur but a practice that unfairly targets women and holds them responsible for population control. Revamp this system.

First off the idea of sterilization camp itself is appalling. Beyond that, these women dying because of it, is dreadful and criminal. All those officers who are responsible should be charged for murder, or manslaughter to the very least!!!

Shocking beyond belief. Those responsible must be severely punished and the state CM and Health minister should accept public responsibility. Why is the govt ready to accept that men ned not undergo, sterilisation on the flimsiest of grounds, whereas women become the victims of yet another deliberate and inhuman act of violence against women.
