SHORTENED LUNCH
The biggest problem is the plan to shorten the lunch periods. The administration of Steinmetz would be harming students in many ways — nutritionally, academically, mentally, and socially.
• Many people who eat slowly wouldn’t have enough time to eat. In elementary school we had short lunch periods. There wasn’t enough time to finish our food. • Some students use the lunch periods to work on homework.
• Some people use lunch to clear their minds, to recharge and relax.
• Lunch is the only time we’re actually allowed to be social and to be themselves. Other high schools have not proposed cutting the lunch periods. The reasoning at Steinmetz by the longer school day committee is that it would calm the environment. But cutting the time of the lunch period would not change the fights at Steinmetz. We have seen very few fights occurring during lunch.
LONGER PERIODS
We also disagree with the idea of lengthening all the class periods. We think a better plan that would help us would be to add a 9th period that would be study hall.

I was walking down the hall today and just thinking about how ridiculous it is to claim that shorter lunches help with behavior when we all know that is not where most of the tension happens anyway. My head is spinning from all these conflicting emails from the administration office because they keep moving the goalposts on what this new schedule actually intends to fix. Honestly half the time it feels like they do not even remember what it is like to be a student trying to eat a sandwich in twenty minutes while also finishing a calculus problem.

Add a 9th period instead. Seriously who thought shortening lunch was a good idea??
The administration is out of their minds. Leave our lunch alone.
Lunch is the only time i get to talk to my friends and finish my math homework. dont take this away from us.
I already barely have time to eat. If they make it shorter I might as well just starve.
Are you kidding me. 20 minutes is not enough time to even get through the line let alone eat. This is crazy.

Stupid idea. They think this stops fights but it just makes people more stressed. Fix the real issues.
