Stark's Knob is a historically significant, geologically irreplaceable site in Saratoga County, NY. The property (ca. 8 acres) was donated to the State Regents/University of the State of New York in 1916 for preservation and research. The State Laws of 1952 reaffirmed this ownership against attempts to sell it by NYS Education Department.

A 1997 report to the State Regents by Philip Lord (State Museum, history, retired) affirmed the Regent's ownership of Stark's Knob. He noted that the deed was never officially filed in 1916 and the original document with signatures seemed "lost."

During Dr. Ed Landing's restoration of Stark's Knob after invitation by the Schuylerville - Old Saratoga Chamber of Commerce in the early 2000's, he found the original deed in a Museum filing cabinet. Despite Dr. Landing passing the deed along to Museum Director Clifford Siegfried with the request that it be filed immediately, it has still not happened.

Today Stark's knob is utilized by educational groups and organizations throughout the region. We ask you to consider adding your signature to help secure Stark's Knob for future generations by asking that the deed naming it a historical and scientific asset of the NYS Regents is finally filed.

This site is critical both for its historical significance in the Revolutionary War and its geological significance for our understanding of the Taconian plate collision event.

Stark's Knob Geology Park is an invaluable teaching resource. I bring my students from Tufts University (near Boston, Mass) to this site. It will be impossible to replace the teaching and learning experience if we were to loose access to Stark's Knob Geology Park.

As a geology major at RPI, Stark's Knob was what made volcanic rocks REAL amid the sedimentary and metamorphic rocks of RPI field trips. Save the Knob.

This is an important educational field trip stop for educational purposes. It is a classical illustration of the far-traveled, faulted rocks in the central and eastern Hudson-Chaplain Valley.

My daughter visited here with her Earth Science class and was so taken with it, she brought any family and visitor she could there! Please keep this site protected.

This historic site must be preserved! Stark's Knob is the ONLY example of a pillow basalt in NYS and I have led groups there many times. It is one of the natural wonders of our great State.
