Indian Rock has been apart of our community for over 18,000 years!
An immense, three-story high glacial erratic, Indian Rock has sat quietly in a Rocky Point neighborhood on land that belonged to one of the first English settlers on Long Island, Noah Hallock. Legend has it that Rocky Point’s name was inspired by this natural wonder. Formed by the last glacier, Indian Rock is rich in folklore, geological and ecological history.

I have been staring at photos of Indian Rock all morning thinking about how the ice age left such a massive gift for us to just sit with in our own backyards. People have been messaging me with the wildest stories about climbing it as kids and it makes me realize how much this landscape is woven into the actual fabric of our town even if we usually forget to mention it.

This has go to be kept as a local treasure and monument to the awesomeness of nature.
Grew up climbing this rock my whole life. Needs to stay for the next generation to see it.

Like “shelter rock” we need to preserve our history before it’s too late and nothing left to remember! This needs preservation!
