We, the families and active supporters of the Stamford Catholic School System, collectively wish to communicate to our State Senators and Representatives our full support of two current considerations before the legislature, and ask that they vote in favor of the following:

The families of the Stamford Catholic School System fully support HB 5564, An Act Concerning School Safety.(http://www.cga.ct.gov/2014/TOB/H/2014HB-05564-R00-HB.htm). We applaud the Education Committee's effort to make all children's safety a priority and are pleased that this bill would allow non-public schools access to the security grant funding available to CT's public schools.

In addition, the families of the Stamford Catholic School System are fully supportive of an Amendment to Section 9 of SB 29, An Act Authorizing and Adjusting Bonds of the State for Capital Improvements, Transportation and Other Purposes. (http://www.cga.ct.gov/2014/TOB/S/2014SB-00029-R00-SB.htm). We respectfully request on behalf of the Catholic Schools in the State of Connecticut and in our City of Stamford, that the law be amended to allow our schools access to school security funding available to public schools.

Seeing this level of support for our students reminds me why I started this fight in the first place. Knowing that others recognize the urgency of keeping all of our children safe in their classrooms gives me so much hope for the path ahead.

It is critical that ALL children are protected against violence whether in public or parochial schools and that any funds provided through grants are used for both, not just public.

Please allow CT Catholic Schools to protect our children with grant access for security upgrades.

Please allow non-public schools to apply for the same security grants that are currently available only to public schools in Connecticut.

Children's safety and school security are a matter of the proper function of government and have nothing to do with a supposed separation of Church and State

I am in support of this State Security Grant act. Our Catholic Schools need the recognition and support of the State in order to be recognized and supported as a viable school organization that offers students the best education in accordance with educational requirements.

School safety should not be a public/non-public school issue. The lives of ALL children are precious and it is our duty to keep them ALL as safe as possible, regardless of where they go to school. To do anything less would be shameful! I fully support this petition.
