TO: LAUSD Department of Special Education and the LAUSD Board: As teachers and assistants of students at Banneker Special Education School we urgently petition the Los Angeles Unified School District to halt the proposed 17% cut in the number of staff working with students with Moderate/Severe Disabilities. The physical, emotional, educational and safety needs of the District's most vulnerable students must not be sacrificed by imposing drastic and potentially life-endangering cuts on humanity's smallest and most voiceless minority. We beg you not to change the ratio of students/staff from the historic standard of 3.0 to 1, to 3.5 to 1. The consequences would be real. We hope they would not be tragic as well.
