they actually listened and the moratorium is officially happening which feels surreal after all the name calling and the absolute mess of the last few months. it is honestly a massive relief to see some actual accountability and i am just sitting here staring at the screen in disbelief because …

If things seem upside down and twisted, they probably are. It seems upside down for our civic employees and community leaders to call any of their constituents names, especially names, like racists and malcontents. It seems intimidating and tactical, in Minnesota nice territory, when they say Islamophobic, just don’t like the information given, or just don’t welcome diversity. It seems disconcerting to have such a vitriolic reaction to a request for a pause, a discussion, a request for information. Why?

If you think that it is important to pause and review what the community impact of refugees and the secondary wave of refugees impact, please just add your name to this list:

If you think it important to build bridges of understanding based on trust and verify standards and civil discourse that allows all voices to be heard with respect, please add your name to this list:

It is never too late to make a difference, to speak, to act. Our government and grant-funded agencies are accountable to us and requests for information should be welcomed and easily provided.

Signed,

The “malcontents”

I have been thinking a lot about the word malcontent and how funny it is that they threw it at us like an insult when really it just means we are paying attention to things they would rather leave in the dark. Silence from the people who are supposedly leading our city is getting louder by the day and I suspect they are hoping we just get tired and go home but that is not how this works.

I no longer feel comfortable walking the walking paths. In would love to walk the the river path but have never done so I wouldn't feel complete doing so. Many of my friends have said they don't go out after dark so the unsafeness of our once lovely city.

There is nothing wrong with a moratorium ! It's simply a way for all sides to step back..look at some real facts..have discussions in a civil way before any final action takes place. I SUPPORT THE MORITORIUM!

I see nothing wrong for city leaders and residents to request and gain information that is critical to proper city planning and management. Withholding or neglecting this information is the height of malfeasance or incompetence.

This information does impact taxpayers in the matters of public safety, infrastructure, housing availability, cost of education, etc. We should be able to know where and how are tax dollars are being spent as this impacts our costs to live in St. Cloud.

Extremely sensible and necessary step to maintain this community for ALL to enjoy growth, safety and progress! This "left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing" is destroying our community.

It is time the Mayor and City Council does their job! How much is it costing the people of the St Cloud Area? ELL costs the #742 school district $3million a year! What is the cost to the county? Taxing seniors out of their houses!

Instead of engaging with honest discussion with citizens, the St. Cloud City Council is acting as a toddler does when he or she doesn't want to hear something--they're sticking their fingers in their ears and screaming, "LALALALALALALA!" They are selectively applying Roberts Rules, the rules with which they agreed to abide with to run their meetings. They are acting not as public servants, but as arrogant overlords. It is time that the City Council be held accountable to citizens as the civil servants that they are, rather than the 'royal' denizens they fancy themselves to be, and it is time that the St. Cloud City Council actually follows the rule of law instead of believing themselves worthy to operate above it.
