Ex-HUMS Research Student Workspace

We, the undersigned, protest the sudden eviction of Sussex University Humanities Research Students from their workspace offices over the summer break with two weeks' warning and no opportunity for consultation. Many of us who use our offices regularly depend on the privacy and security of a set assigned room where we can work and leave our books and papers. We find it invaluable to have our own personal study space, which increases our productivity, provides somewhere to keep our books, and helps with a certain work ethic. We believe the proposed alternative 'hotdesk' solution to space problems is inadequate for research student needs. Although we welcome the proposed development of social spaces for meeting fellow students, this is an unacceptable cost if it means losing an assigned place where we can work and study on campus.
