Dear Provost,

We, the undersigned, members of University College London staff, support the students who are currently peacefully occupying the Jeremy Bentham Room, and their right to protest. The occupation has been an open space for discussion about the future of this university and an outstanding example of student engagement and entrepreneurship. We believe that the UCL Management’s unilateral decision to charge and evict students with a court order is not acceptable. It explicitly goes against point 2 of the College Charter, denoting that staff and students are one Body Corporate and Politic. Also, this decision is at odds with UCL’s long standing radical tradition and commitment to progressive education; in particular, equality and free speech.

As a way of resolving the matter we support a dialogue between the management, students and staff. We urge for more transparency in managerial decisions regarding the matter. We insist that you withdraw the court case against the students immediately.

I keep refreshing the page and feeling genuinely overwhelmed by how many names appear because I honestly did not think this would gain this much traction so fast. It feels like the air in the office has changed even though we are all just staring at our screens wondering what the provost is thinking right now while we wait for any response at all.

This is completely against everything UCL stands for. Where is the transparency?

Im proud of these students for taking a stand. Management should listen instead of threatening them.

UCL needs to remember its own history. Stop trying to silence the people who actually make this place what it is.

Ridiculous to use court orders against your own students. Talk to them instead of hiding behind lawyers.

Total disgrace. Since when did management decide that students werent part of the university body? Drop the charges!

Keep up the pressure. We need open dialogue not empty threats.
