
PRESERVATION PLAN for Spotsylvania County


Vote to support the first ever Preservation Plan for Spotsylvania County. This Plan went before the Spotsylvania Board of Supervisors for further discussion July 2007. NOW, it will be voted upon August 14. It was developed by a citizens\' committee with the recommendation that it be added to the Comprehensive Plan, a land use document that all Virginia jurisdictions use to make land use decisions. GOALS include: 1. Protect, preserve, and promote historic, cultural, architectural and archaeological resources 2. Recognize and treat Civil War Battlefields lands [both inside and outside of park boundaries] as the nationally significant, character defining features of Spotsylvania County that distinguish this place from any other place in the world. 3. Enhance public understanding and appreciation of the unique nature of Spotsylvania County\'s history and character. 4. Encourage individual citizen action to preserve and protect historic resources through education programs and activities related to historic preservation. 5. Integrate historic preservation values into county planning, land use and other policies and practices.
