Whereas on April 1, 2015 Congregation Brith Shalom (CBS) will be without a cantor, with the CBS Board having decided to postpone launching a search for a new cantor for an indefinite period, the undersigned are invoking Article V, Section 3, Item C of the CBS Constitution and are calling for a Special Meeting of the Congregation to be convened to discuss and vote on the plans of the Board for replacing the departing cantor.

Updates

March 6, 2015

The board has remained silent regarding our request for a meeting despite the clear language in our constitution. It is draining to keep pushing when there is no formal recognition of our concerns yet we continue to organize because the future of our congregation deserves real transparency.

we are definitely in the same frame of mind as you are. We have belonged to BS for 35 years and cannot imagine not having a cantor. There is a warmness of the service that would be destroyed

I value having a cantor very much. I am curious as to why no timeline was established for commencing a search for a new cantor, even if the search is for the year 2016..

Being for or against the action by the Board is immaterial. What is important is that proper procedures be followed to get input from the Congregation.

I have no qualms with changing how CBS operates, but I do welcome a discussion with the rest of the congregation. I think this is an opportunity to hear everyon, to be sure that that the new model is the best fit for our shul.

Congregation MUST be involved but we know historically that CBS Constitution is ignored or changed to suit some. FYI the real issue is fiscal and lack of transparency, once again. Mark & Fran Katzenellenbogen

Having a cantor is very important to us especially since our daughters will be having a bat mitzvah in the next few years. A meeting is definitely warranted.

A meeting should be held to hear the congregation's thoughts on the matter of a cantor.
