I am trying to get an improved rest area for EMAS staff at South Park. By signing this you agree that you feel our current rest facilities are not sufficient and you would like EMAS to invest in improvements for staff welfare.

I feel compared to every other station in our area, South Park has very poor rest facilities. The downstairs area is uncomfortable, too bright, noisy and lacks any privacy.

While we have been provided with 2 chairs and a sofa upstairs, this is not sufficient for the amount of staff on shift and is often occupied in the day.

Any suggestion of how we could improve things are welcome.

I honestly did not think so many people would actually get behind this but suddenly everyone is talking about the state of our break room at South Park and it feels like the momentum is finally shifting toward something better. Seeing the consensus here is just wild because it proves I am not crazy for wanting a quiet place to sit down after a long shift without it being so loud and bright all the time.

The adjust made to the meeting room are appreciated, however this is not a purpose built space and therefore lacks sufficient seating for the vast number of employees. The rest area downstairs does not meet the welfare facilities that should be provided. In the ‘Welfare facilities for healthcare staff’ dated August 2021, it states facilities to rest and eat meals should be away from members of the public. As the current area is located in an open area, other agencies and visitors often pass this area.

I think a point to add about the advantages of having our own area for the sole use of EMAS staff like we used to have is that it is a more “safe space” for conversation. It would allow conversation without causing other station users offence or colleagues needing to feel guarded about points or questions they would like to raise among their peers. When I joined EMAS I found it a good opportunity to listen and learn from colleagues with previous experience, share experiences, ask advice post jobs and gain reassurance should that situation arise again. Even just being in the room to overhear these conversations was a benefit. Surely this could be regarded as an improvement to clinical skills and ultimately a benefit to EMAS.

The room being offered to us should have the board table removed with further seating available to have a suitable rest area for staff to relax and unwind free from scrutiny, where other services take over the area as and when they feel like it. Or when the police are sorting their evidence after raids or hosting people leaving emas nowhere to relax

We need our own enclosed space to be able to decompress.
