The demolition plans are cancelled and the building will be preserved. My hands are still shaking from the news because the exhaustion of this fight nearly broke me. We won this one but keep watching the site to ensure they follow through.
For the past 87 years the Souris Valley Mental Hospital has been a local landmark in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Recently a developer was located that has expressed interest in preserving some or all of this precious historic resource. The decision to demolish this historic treasure without any business proposal deserves ti be reconsidered.
The silence from the demolition planners is heavy but we are still here pushing for a real answer. I have been spending my nights digging through archives to prepare our next formal request because this site deserves more than a wrecking ball.

My grandfather worked there for years. It would be a crying shame to see it turned to rubble for no reason.

So sad to see this happen. Talk to the developer at least. There has to be a better way than demolition.

Weyburn is losing all its character. Fix the building up instead of destroying it. Think of the heritage!

Ridiculous decision. Why not give the developer a chance before just bringing in the bulldozers?
