Currently the MBTA is
making changes to the Fitchburg Commuter Rail that will result in a significant
increase in noise pollution in the Winn Brook neighborhood. Track cross-overs were added directly
behind our homes which ultimately means that trains can and will come to a stop
in our back yards. The potential of trains idling behind our homes will
increase the noise and the diesel fumes that we are exposed to on a daily
basis, as well as compromise our privacy. Also, the added signals and utility
houses that are being constructed are unwelcome sights for the abutting
neighbors. As of yet there have been no measures taken to curtail the increased
noise, pollution and privacy issues. A sound barrier would help shield our back yards from
all three of these issues. Belmont High School abuts the tracks on the opposite side and students often cross over to get to school. A sound barrier would also address this safety issue.
The MBTA is accountable for any pollution caused by the recent
changes made to the Fitchburg Line. We created this petition to encourage them
to take immediate steps to address this issue.
Residents of the Winn Brook neighborhood ask that a Sound Barrier be erected on the north side of Channing Road as the
noise and fumes are detrimental to the residents of this otherwise quiet neighborhood.
Given the close proximity of our heavily populated community to the
railway we urge you to build a size-able barrier to address the issues that the
new construction has created.
the noise is just crazy lately. we cant even sit in our own backyard anymore without the idling engines right there.
