I see no sensible reason why the Macdonald group wants to alienate the local population? What negative impact is there in allowing locals who haver paid their High Life to access the pool?

McDonald's resort is already receiving more public money per head than Edinburgh pools. If they are looking for more public money, they must be required to show why their costs have risen and start giving more public access by not insisting on visitors buying a 7 day pass.

If MacDonald Hotels don't come back to the negotiation table with the local council and the Highlife scheme they are likely to ostracize themselves from the local community. No reason for not accepting the offer has been given, just total silence. If indeed the pool was partly funded with public money this is very bad form.

so important that a community can swim. Never understand why the management are so hellbent on alienating the community. :(
Very sad state of affairs and makes us an embarrassment to people taking holidays across the valley that can't go for a swim either. Its an absolute disgrace.

Surely it must be possible to provide continued access for HighLife Highland Members, as well as day and weekly passes for non-residents, at a reasonable cost, without having a negative impact on the hotel's core business and income? It might mean a tiny less profit for the company, but it would be paid back in goodwill, positive McDonalds/Aviemore Community partnership and co-operation and good publicity. Swimming is life saving, swimming can be life changing and swimming is definitely life enhancing. Just ask Ross Murdoch at al ...

Its an absolute disgrace in a small community that taking away the access to the kids should be allowed. Private business always plead that costs have rocketed (as stated in the BBC article 28th Aug) but private business such as McDonald Hotels always have a huge margin. Aviemore has prospered over the past decade and the local community need to have access to facilities such as this not just the transient visitor.

Public money partly funded this facility so that it could be used by the community as well as hotel guests and a lot of public money is paid annually to keep its doors open to local people. Swimming helps local people to be healthy and happy and feel connected to this resort. It is an activity which young and old can enjoy and which needs to be accessible and affordable. To have a vibrant, healthy local community who feel positive about the hotel must make good business sense. Go on, demonstrate a sense of social responsibility! Be reasonable, (generous even!) and negotiate a fair financial settlement which helps build your relationship with the communities around Aviemore.

This is a great facility for local people and visitors alike. A fair price should be paid for access for Highlife members but MacDonald hotels need to remember their part within the local community and not be driven by financial greed.

Swimming is an important part of education, any restriction on availability to families is unjust. I will not be patronising any Macdonald facility nationwide (for work or leisure) as a result of the decision to remove Aviemore facilities from residents.

Hope this gets reolved before, incredible that our kids have no access to swimming in a town of this size. Hope this gets resolved before the Hotel's reputation in the community is damaged beyond repair.

We are a local family of four. We have highlife membership and use the resort swimming frequently. Removing this for financial reasons is appalling and the resort will only further isolate itself from the local community in doing so. So many in the community will not be able to pay the huge costs that the resort will charge also. Health promotion and community support should be at the basis of the resorts agenda. Not profits and alienation from local community
