Started by Ben Howlett 11 years, 9 months ago

Bath is a world class city and we are calling on the council to provide world class facilities too. Ben Howlett, residents, businesses and the group "Independent Shops of Bath" hereby call upon Bath and North East Somerset Council to adequately replace the loss of 200 car parking spaces from Avon Street car park.

Small Businesses are the lifeblood of Bath. They provide jobs and investment for our city and we want to provide adequate parking to ensure that they thrive.

By signing this petition, we hope that B&NES Council will re-think their strategy and replace Avon Street and other earmarked parking facilities with adequate parking elsewhere.

Promoted by Philip Coombes on behalf of Ben Howlett, both of 96 Sydney Mews, Bath, BA2 4ED.

Updates

January 16, 2015

The response to our call for accessible parking in Bath has been significant. This growing momentum serves as a clear indication that the council must prioritize the needs of our local businesses and residents.

Over the Christmas period there were times when virtually all car parks were full - traffic congestion resulted as motorists went on the search for spaces! Where I live, public transport is not an option for a quick shopping trip with only one bus per hour and the nearest Park and ride 3 times as far away as the Avon Street car park.

Small Independants shops and businesses totally rely on onstreet local to these businesses to pop in..If you take these away and make parking more expensive You are Killing these Independants.. You dont go on a park and ride service just to pop to the bank or pop in and get a pressie for a friend.. Life Just doesnt work like that..we dont have time..

Central affordable parking is vital for the survival of the small independent shops in Bath which rely on visitors to their premises, as supposed to large multi national shops who attract shoppers to their websites as well.

Visitors to the city are our life blood and cars are most visitors mode of transport. The Park and Ride facilities are not adequate so we must keep town center parks and keep the prices down.
