Cody Smith, Parking Services Manager at Sonoma State, has notified students that SSU has discontinued the privilege of parking in housing parking lots for 'general parking permit' holders.
Come to Sonoma State any weekday and what will you find? Parking lots shared between Technology High School students, full time Sonoma State students, Extended Education students, on-campus housing students, and faculty. The lack of organization and providing too many parking permits for the amount of easily accessible parking spaces is causing students to be late to classes or even miss class completely.
The Green Music Center allows extra parking for students, however, since the opening of the Student Center, which centralized all campus operations to one single building in the front of campus, the Green Music Center parking is significantly far from most common used buildings. Additionally, when an event takes place at the GMC, spots are then not available for students.
We, the undersigned, ask that Parking Services use the income provided from the purchasing of permits to better organize our campus parking lots, and/or construct a parking facility closer to campus amenities. We also ask that Parking Services work closely with other SSU departments to develop a safe plan for biking on campus, as the current walkways and roads are not biker friendly.

GIVE US PARKING SPACES FOR GODS SAKE. 100$ a semester is not cutting it if I can't find a parking spot in 30 minutes, and end up missing my class. I ended up not going to a class last semester, and doing the whole course individually, due to the parking epidemic..
We pay almost 100$ to be restricted to only (three or four) lots on campus. The least you do is let us park in housing until five pm. It creates more parking for students on campus. Our students have to now drive around for half an hour trying to find parking. This is crazy.
Staff do not have designated parking, either. While the administration seems to repeat the same line of "we have lots of parking available," they ignore the fact that very few non-reserved lots are convenient. Parking in Lot G and walking to Carson Hall during El Nino will be a disaster.
The 'housing' lot nearest to the children's school should become general because as a female walking all the way to the other side of campus at night because I have a late class in Chalk Hill feels unsafe and completely rediculous.
Ever since I was a freshman in 2006, I have said SSU would benefit from a parking structure. I could see this parking stucture going right next to the new student center. Or in the IVES parking lots. Then the housing parking lots could be used for just housing parking permit holders.
A parking structure with multiple levels would allow for more parking and wouldn't require the land space of 3 more lots.
the amount of money I spend on gas circling the parking lot is almost the equivalent of my tuition itself. This is unreal

Since ssu offers a lot of classes that go til 9:40 I think that those students should be able to park in the student center parking lot during the late class. Many feel unsafe walking back to their cars in the dark when there is a perfectly good well lit empty parking lot very close to many campus buildings.
