A recent tragedy occurred in Brooklyn as a faulty electric appliance sparked a fire and a lack of smoke alarms caused the deaths of seven children
By signing this petition, you are aware the following:
1. Seven children were recently killed in a Brooklyn fire due to a faulty electric appliance and a lack of smoke alarms.
2.Smoke alarms are fundamental to home and apartment safety
3.The need for smoke alarms should be further enforced by the city of NYC
4.If a household cannot afford smoke alarms, it is the city's responsibility to give and/or install approved smoke alarms*
5.Smoke alarms should also by law be required to be inspected and their batteries renewed every year by the homeowner.*
6. Apartments must have at least one smoke alarm*
*not a part of the current law
This is clearly something that has to be fixed, and if we can keep tobacco legal, then why not enforce smoke detector laws?
