Final supporters
The outgoing E4 was approach by Valerie Abrahamsen requesting that they take on the role and responsibility of hooding the 2013 graduating class for Commencement. We would like to register our collective disappointment that the faculty will not be doing the hooding. The hooding is a symbolic gesture of students accomplishments, conferring of the degree, and welcoming into the profession. Many of our families are making significant sacrifices to be here for commencement, and we hope to have them see us be hooded when we receive our degree. It important to each of us to be welcomed into the Social Work profession by the faculty that have been our mentors for the duration of our journey.
For these reasons, we respectfully request that this decision be reconsidered.

The groundswell of support for this petition has been significant. It is clear that the faculty mentor relationship remains a central priority for our graduating class.

Totally agree. Very disappointing.
My family is flying halfway across the country to see this. They expect to see the professors who actually taught me doing the hooding. Please fix this.
This is a massive deal for us. The faculty are the ones who guided us through the entire program. Not having them do the hooding feels really wrong.
It feels like a real slap in the face to the students. The faculty should be the ones welcoming us into the field. Period.
Ridiculous decision. We worked way too hard for this to have someone else do the honors.
