The council finally agreed to the 20mph limit for our streets and I am honestly still in shock that this is actually happening. It feels like just yesterday I was worried about the kids walking to school but now we really did it and I am so grateful to everyone …

We believe the residential streets of Hitchin, including Benslow Lane, Chiltern Road and The Avenue would be safer if a 20mph speed limit was introduced. As I’m sure you’re aware, these roads are a main thoroughfare for pedestrians including families, school children the elderly.

By signing the petition, this proposal can then be raised with the County Council’s highway panel and recorded as a community issue, this would hopefully result in the scheme being funded.

A 20mph zone has successfully been introduced in the residential streets of North Hitchin. Hopefully, with your help we can make the streets where we live safer for everyone.

I just blinked and saw the counter hit two hundred and fifty which is actually wild because I remember just sitting here typing this up thinking maybe my neighbors would care. It feels like the momentum is finally catching on and honestly I keep checking the screen to make sure it is not a glitch.

As a local resident i worry about the excessive speed of drivers who use our local streets as ‘rat runs’ and or due to Google maps! An accident waiting to happen for children, pets or our elderly community

Long overdue, previous efforts from CAFRA (Chiltern Road, The Avenue, The Finches Residents' Association) not implemented except traffic calming measures at top/bottom of Avenue which council said had been built at wrong height, so time to revisit

My daughter is going to St Andrews Primary school. This road needs to be much safer for all the children going to school, nursery and outside school club (playAloud). This road can very dangerous especially around school pick up and drop off.

As a regular cyclist in this area (aged 84) I am often alarmed by the heavy lorries that tear along our roads, and other speed-happy drivers. There are many children about in this residential area, and 20mph would be much safer.

Having lived on the lane for over 30 years and experienced two parked cars being written off due to speeding vehicles, I feel the traffic calming measures we were promised when the new houses were built are long overdue, A 20mph limit is a good place to start.

Benslow Lane is a cul de sac serving hundreds of residents, hospital, school, residential homes etc. And this means that there is a lot of traffic. The road is narrow and includes a steep incline which encourages speeding. Some kind of traffic calming is essential if there is not to be a serious accident.

Please introduce a 20 mph speed limit in these areas. Many people, including families with young children use these roads, which need to be made safer.

The roads in this area are with a few exceptions unsuitable for through traffic especially teavelling at thirty miles an hour. Access only should be provided for especially in the vicinity of schools shops and other facilities.
