Dear Guests and Lodging Associates,

Please sign this petition if you are opposed to the new 1% assessment being proposed by the County of San Luis Obispo to form a countywide Tourism Marketing Distinct (TMD).

This 1% assessment would be in addition to the existing Transient Occupancy Tax rate of 9% plus the various BID (Business Improvement Districts) assessments already in place throughout the county (this varies from a 1-3% assesment top of the 9% occupancy tax)

The assessment is placed on the lodging business, although it is permissible to pass this cost to the guest. There is currently a growing trend for Cities throughout California and other States in the U.S. to use BIDs to collect assessments from guests in order to pay for marketing their destinations. If this trend continues, guest throughout the country will be footing the bill for marketing to areas they already know about.

When will new assessments in the form of BIDs stop? As managers and operators of Vacation Rentals and B&B's we have officially requested that the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors exclude us from the proposed TMD. The county Board will make the final decision on June 10, 2015.

Please help us let the supervisors know your opinion.
