The town council just approved the skate park construction. My legs are heavy from this long fight but I am relieved that we finally have a place to call our own.

Hi!! My name is Jocelyn Mendez and I am trying to have a skate park built for our beautiful community in Matthews, NC. I want a safe and fun place to go to and skate that is open to all ages and can provide another amazing park for the residents of Matthews. I think this would be a great addition to our community because I know so many people that love to skate. This will be a park that we can pass down to all the new families moving into Matthews. I've already touched based with Matthews Parks and Recreation Administration and they encouraged me to garner signatures so that I can present it during an upcoming town council meeting. I hope you will consider joining my efforts!

The money the town of Matthews has spent on skate stoppers and repairs on public grounds caused by skateboarding, could be better spent on a skatepark.
When my daughter was 14, she wanted to do her Girl Scout gold project on starting a skate park in Matthews. Life got in the way. But she and her friends were often talking about how there was nothing for the teens to do in Matthews that was easy to access, fun, and safe. It is really needed.
Yes! Please! I’m all in and all about this! Also, concrete, not wood. Build to last. Also, please find a central, easy to access location. Accessible to Four Mile Creek Greenway, if possible. Sportsplex, maybe? Anyway, this is great news!
This is a GREAT idea, even for us 50+ year old skaters. You can ask Lexington, NC how their new park is working out. It's bringing in LOTS of us out of towners every weekend who eat at local restaurants and support local businesses. It's a win-win.
This would be a great addition to Matthews. We currently have many youth who skate around the Matthews elementary school grounds when they really aren’t supposed to. Having a skate park would give them, and countless others a safe place to go. I love this idea!!
Provide our youth with safe options.

My 8 year daughter is a skater. A skatepark would really gives kids an outlet to exercise and gain confidence, especially if they arent interested in organized sports (softball, baseball, basketball, etc). Parents can sign waivers to allow assuming responsibility if their kids get injured.
