According to the UC Policy on Sustainable Practices, UC Santa Barbara is set to ban the distribution of single-use plastic ware on campus by July 1, 2024. This includes plastic straws, plastic cups, plastic utensils (spoons, forks and knives) and plastic bags.

This petition expands on this by working towards a ban on single-use plastics within Isla Vista. This would mean restaurants located in Isla Vista would no longer distribute single-use plastic ware.

Plastic pollution accounts for 430 milliion tons of plastic waste each year. Of this number, 12 million tons are thrown into our oceans.
