Signals at Highland & Fellsway

Traffic Signals are essential at this intersection. I have been rearended by a driver because the Highland Avenue stop sign precedes any visibility of the northbound Fellsway traffic. So, it is a dangerous stop sign since you can't see the oncoming traffic who have full right of way. Plus, the oncoming traffic is usually speeding. The Double Lanes at that point also impede visibility and give the drivers the perspective that they are driving on a highway not through parks and neighborhoods. Thank you.

I've walked, biked, and driven through this intersection - all three are extremely dangerous! It's confusing enough that people are focused on figuring out how to get through it rather than noticing other traffic. Adding signals will greatly improve navigation.

If traffic signals are not added to this intersection, then the minimum that I would want to see is a change to the current oval shape of the island to a square. People wouldn't confuse a square for a rotary. Something needs to be done about the excessive speed of vehicles driving on Fellsway East. The sporadic police presence is not enough.

Vital to provide and maintain safe walk-able communities. Time to prioritize pedestrians over vehicular traffic.

Traffic lights would be a significant improvement. Many people seem to think the island is a traffic circle / roundabout. We avoid driving through this intersection by using the East Border Road / Fellsway East intersection. We agree with the proposed changes as a starting point.

I do agree it is a dangerous intersection. Usually rotaries are where several different roads come into play it really just fellsway and highland ave an intersection. Traffic lights would work better

We as a family absolutely support installing traffic signals at the intersection of the Fellsway and Highland Ave. It can be deadly situation for children and adults trying to cross, especially in the morning rush hours.

Traffic lights, while expensive, will work better.

So many factors over the last couple decades seem to have contributed to distracted driving, driving by GPS etc. Only overt enforcement, by police officers, or by tools such as traffic lights will force change. I would like to get near and/or cross our roads in Malden without feeling I am taking a mortal risk.

We need a long-term solution that addresses the needs of the neighborhood's residents.

This is the intersection where my sister lives. It is very confusing and scary navigating, especially backing out of a driveway into traffic that doesn't care to yeild.

Traffic lights are much needed! I live on this intersection and watch car accidents (many minor, some major) almost daily. My neighbors home was driven through last year. A change involving lights and better road signs, raised walkways (preferably lit walkways) is needed.

I moved to the neighborhood 3 years ago and I've seen car accident almost every month. It is a dangerous interesection, confusing to some drivers. Placing signals will help the flow and alleviate car accidents significantly.

A fix is needed, but a signal isn't it. A proper Roundabout intersection as part of a road diet on Fellsway is a better solution from a safety and operations perspective.

Given these options, is it possible to decline the funding and proposals? I simply do not envision how the short term solution would enhance vehicular, cyclist, and pedestrian safety. I am not aware of any timeframe that transitions the short term solution into one of the long term solutions. We could have the short term recommendation for years. In my opinion, any recommendation which does not view this intersection as part of regional thoroughfare to Interstate 93, will be shortsighted in its approach to solutions.

YES! I have almost been hit several times due to other drivers not understanding that it is not a rotary.
