Sign to Oppose A High-Speed Rail Bypass Through Southeastern Connecticut and Rhode Island
We must not squander a once-in-a-generation opportunity to modernize rail travel along the Northeast Corridor, on plans destined either to fail, or to irreparably harm the historic towns, and estuaries of southeastern Connecticut and Rhode Island.

times, Senator Richard Blumenthal, a keen supporter of rail travel, called the
proposed Kenyon to Saybrook bypass, “half-baked and harebrained.”
We agree.
We urge you to remove this flawed coastal bypass -- both as a mapped route and as a concept - from the NEC Future Preferred Alternative, and from any further planning by the Federal Railroad Administration along the Northeast Corridor.

THIS MOMENTUM IS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!! PEOPLE ARE FINALLY WAKING UP TO THE DANGERS OF THIS DREADFUL BYPASS PLAN AND WE ARE SHOWING THEM THAT OUR COMMUNITIES CANNOT BE IGNORED!! KEEP PUSHING FORWARD BECAUSE WE ARE FORCING THEM TO LISTEN TO US NOW!!!

Please do not go forward with the proposed by-pass. The route passes through, and would irreparably harm, resources that are essential to the communities impacted. There is no 'greater good' that would begin to balance that negative result.
What are you thinking? I'm apoplectic you 1) did not include towns along this corridor in the planning; 2) think this is profitable, even though jetblues from Boston to NY or Philly are $90, fr , far below the cost of the Acela 3) do not realize the glory of rail is the slow but open accessibility; 4) that the coastal line along the SE Connecticut region is a precious and most beautiful and rare rail line; 5) that you are doubling the environmental impact, not only inland but on the coast, when your rail organization will invariably sell rights to private development; 6) destroy inland and tourist attractions. Shame on you!
This would be a severe disruption of businesses here in the area and a huge loss of tourism for our area.
Outstanding work, SECOAST. Advocating for a 21st century rail network as well protecting open space and historic preservation are not mutually exclusive.
I am opposed to the FRA's plan to reroute the RR through Old Lyme. It would be a desecration of Historical landmarks.
The rails we have already are just fine.

I support a modern rail system, The bypass approach fails to use the existing system in a more tech savy way. The billions of dollars wasted on this line on a map could be done with 10% of the money put into improving on the systems we already have. World class aquarium, single source water supplies, sovereign lands, and untold billions in personal property all destroyed for no reason that benefits the local or the federal economy. Plans like these have no upside, only destruction to the economy and ecology of the region
