JL Crowe Secondary's outdoor education program purchased baby ducks about a year ago and it saddens me to say that they were killed to be eaten. Our school called them our "Pet ducks". Our food classes have eaten them. They made soup. And unfortunately, our school just got 6 more this April. School is out in June and they plan to kill them before the school year ends because we "can't keep them over the summer". There has got to be another alternative. Sign this petition to help save the baby ducks at JLC :(

This is NOT appropriate. Don't pretend that these are "pets" then serve them up on a platter later. This totally desensitizes children to the value of the lives of other species.
If you can't keep them somewhere over the summer, don't get them. They are living beings, not toys to throw away. Teaching kids to love an animal then killing them and cooking them up is really sick and twisted and should not be something kids are exposed to in school.
Once again an institution teaches that compassion has a limit, - it ends where personal desire and convenience begins! Pathetic. Each one of those ducks is an individual. It's time to truly teach compassion and respect. Send the ducks to a sanctuary and cook some healthy, non-violent food instead!
What a horrible mixed message to send to kids and a very cruel and inhuman attitude for the teachers and school admin to have. Let the ducks go to safety in a sanctuary, and the school has to stop taking in animals like this. Instead take the kids on field trips to sanctuaries and teach them respect for living things.
This isn't fair! Animals are living things, you wouldn't just kill off your dog because you couldn't find a place for it to stay over your vacation. Absolute crap!

I think it's a bad lesson to teach youth to love something only as long as it's convenient to you. I think it's also bad to train them to ignore the feeling of compassion and grief for unnecessary killing.
