I write to you and ask for your support to sign this petition to name a new SI Ferry in honor of Dorothy Day, historical SI Resident and founder of the Catholic Worker Movement.

I believe it would be a wonderful way to honor Ms. Day and her legacy as a Social Activist, Female SI resident, and Servant of God to have a SI Ferry named after her. I suspect Ms. Day utilized the SI Ferry as passage to/from SI and Manhattan for her mission work with the Catholic Worker Movement. The SI Ferry system transports thousands of residents to and from work every day and it would be a great way to remind us all of the importance of exercising our individual and moral obligation to contribute to our community and society as we make our daily passage to and from work and school.

Ms. Day was an exemplary individual who lived a life of compassion, charity, social activism and she provides inspiration to us all for the importance of continuing her legacy. This past September Pope Francis’ mention of Dorothy Day as a Servant of God in his UN Address was also very inspiring.

I hope you feel the individual and her legacy as compelling as I and so many NYC residents feel and sign this petition today.

Thank you for your support.

It's great to honor out borough's war heroes but we should also recognize our borough's peace heroes!

While I live in New Hampshire, my parents were born and raised in the Bronx. I know Dorothy Day and fully support this petition to name a ferry after her. She loved Staten Island. I hope one day the Catholic Church will fully name her a saint. Thank you. Shawn Donovan

It is about time that we honor the true heroes of Staten Island. this woman was a true pioneer in the fight for the poor and underprivileged. We couldn't save her home from the bulldozers of a builder looking to make a profit off of Staten Island land, so we at least owe her this honor.
