The administration has officially granted our request for a brief closure to ensure the well-being of the student body. This outcome reflects how much can change when we articulate our common needs with clarity and persistence. Please take this time to rest and recharge as we intended.

Due to Georgia College’s new found luck in 2019, we are requesting that Georgia College shuts down for a week for the emotional well-being of the students.

Reaching one hundred signatures shows that many people are feeling the same exhaustion regarding our current circumstances. It is encouraging to see this shared perspective gain momentum as we consider the impact on our well-being.

I asked my professors what they think about possibly having a mental health day and they’ve agreed that students aren’t concentrating as well this week and things that are normally a breeze are taking much longer for the students to understand. We need a moment to collect ourselves.

I also shouldn’t be concerned/scared to leave my dorm room. This isn’t healthy or safe. We don’t feel safe on campus. I literally considered going and buying mace today cause I’m that freaked out.

Seriously, I'm freaked out, we're all freaked out- it's hard to focus on classes, work. We're unsettled. Give grieving students time to go to counseling. Give theta chi time to get rested. Give the rest of us time to process.

I work downtown and don’t even feel safe to work anymore. These things aren’t happening in Milledgeville they are happening on or right near campus. It’s sad the school doesn’t get how unsafe teachers, students, and parents feel

at first i thought gcsu would be dumb to cancel classes. then theta chi burned down and a student was shot on the week anniversary of another student losing his life due to a gc bus. give us a day or two to regain our footing.

If Greek life had put as many people in the hospital as you guys have the past two weeks, you would ban it immediately. That speaks volumes. At least fix the food you provide your students, we are paying more than enough for it.

The administration is doing everything that it can. As a close friend of some people who have suffered, going to class is normal for them and they are truly just trying to resume their normal lives (or as close to it as possible). It is selfish and disheartening that so many students want to take advantage of tragedies just for a week off. It makes sense that classes would continue so that everyone can carry on with what is important (their education). The university would lose no money for closing classes - so the argument that the university "just wants our tuition dollars" is ridiculous. If anything, we are losing money by not having class (because we pay for the classes, so why would we want them to be cancelled). During all of the tragedies, the college has offered support in every way possible that makes sense. During the bus accident, the president even came to the scene to help console students who were there. During the dining hall incident, the university gave students money for meals even though it wasn't even a problem with the dining hall. Honestly, the college's response to circumstances has strengthened my faith in our school and has continued to support my choice to become a Bobcat because it does reflect that there are people on campus who really care. Anyone who thinks otherwise isn't paying any attention or isn't close to the people who have been severely hurt by the incidents. The only thing that will help is if we continue to support each other and our campus. We really need to stand in support of our school now more than ever. Stay strong, Bobcat Nation. If you truly think that you deserve to have a break in classes, talk to the guidance counselors and your professors. The faculty who I have met genuinely care about students and should be willing to work with you if you feel like you need some time (they expressed this to me verbally during the bus accident, since I was in close proximity).

Hold up don’t bring my backbone into this Dutch, I’ll have you know my backbone is just fine after carrying Fortnite squads for a year and a half. Hop off.
