The administration is doing everything that it can. As a close friend of some people who have suffered, going to class is normal for them and they are truly just trying to resume their normal lives (or as close to it as possible). It is selfish and disheartening that so many students want to take advantage of tragedies just for a week off. It makes sense that classes would continue so that everyone can carry on with what is important (their education). The university would lose no money for closing classes - so the argument that the university "just wants our tuition dollars" is ridiculous. If anything, we are losing money by not having class (because we pay for the classes, so why would we want them to be cancelled). During all of the tragedies, the college has offered support in every way possible that makes sense. During the bus accident, the president even came to the scene to help console students who were there. During the dining hall incident, the university gave students money for meals even though it wasn't even a problem with the dining hall. Honestly, the college's response to circumstances has strengthened my faith in our school and has continued to support my choice to become a Bobcat because it does reflect that there are people on campus who really care. Anyone who thinks otherwise isn't paying any attention or isn't close to the people who have been severely hurt by the incidents. The only thing that will help is if we continue to support each other and our campus. We really need to stand in support of our school now more than ever. Stay strong, Bobcat Nation.
If you truly think that you deserve to have a break in classes, talk to the guidance counselors and your professors. The faculty who I have met genuinely care about students and should be willing to work with you if you feel like you need some time (they expressed this to me verbally during the bus accident, since I was in close proximity).

My son Wade Smith has put his foot down and let everyone know that this is an important issue and not only should they close the school until this has been resolved but they should shut down the entirety of Milledgeville cause even though they employ the most Police officers in the world in Milledgeville, not even the 4,000,000 Police men can stop the insanity that is sweeping throughout this community.

My eyes can't roll far enough back into my skull . This petition is a prime example in revealing just how weak you kids look to adults. The over sensitive emotions and needing to be nurtured is absolutely laughable . Brush your teeth, go to class and build some character, and while you are at it see if you can find a backbone. Pffff.

A few unrelated incidents and you all lose your minds. How fragile are you people? I thought college was supposed to get you ready for the real world...not hold your hand when you get a boo boo. Grow up. People get sick, people get hurt, and morons run into busses. Think you get a day off of work when someone in town gets shot or some people get a stomach bug? Ridiculous. Shut up.

I think we as students need this. I can’t go another day without having time to myself. This mental instability that people are feeling is very unhealthy. Georgia College please help students recuperate.
