This is another attack at gun owners in new zealand that have done nothing wrong. If the police knew what the gun laws are and looked into the signs at the gun club this terriorist was at, they could have potentially stopped this attack

First enquire then propose law change.

We cant stop you passing laws as it's clear this government no longer is a democracy. It was a disaster what happend, and preventing the disaster could have occurred at the boarder and proper vetting. The current law relies on those in possession to be fit and proper. The fact there is two separate class's for A & E with the intent of restricting high capacity firearms to those whom undergo further vetting and storage security for E. The availability of a high capacity magazine to "A" that can be fitted to a firearm where the user should only be fitting no more than 7 rounds is not controlling the availability of firearms to meet the security requirements set out in "E". If any law was to be passed that is rash, It would be restricting Semi automatic firearms to "E" and "B" endorsements where the cartridge is center fire and the firearm can accept a removable magazine. Those firearms that can be modified to accept only 7 rounds, such as the SKS should be accepted on the basis where the magazine is welded to the catch for a "A" cat. Now... all these changes do not address the real issue. This is VETTING!, all the changes do is yeild less casualty's, but to be honest.. this is a step in the right direction.

We definitely need a calm, reasoned debate to find a solution that will WORK, and not a knee-jerk reaction against inanimate objects and law abiding firearms owners. Why punish a whole group for the actions of one madman?

Law abiding firearms owners should not collectively have their rights stripped because of one insane criminal. This is a knee jerk reaction that is the panic answer to a terrible situation by a minority government,

Risk profiling should been done on any person entering NZ, does not matter where they come from or even if they are from NZ.

Such a Criminal act, or hate crime as the ChCh shootings, is abhorrent to any rational New Zealander, and one would hope that rational, informed, sensible decisions will be made rather than emotional knee jerk reaction that we are seeing at the present. One would hope that both sides of the debate and police can work together for a sane workable outcome that works rather than emotional non informed knee jerk reaction that punishes the responsible firearm owners of this democratic nation.

The act of a coward, criminal and terrorist should not negatively impact the kiwi right to hunt or own firearms for sport and recreational activities. Semi automatic firearms have a legitimate place within the firearm community for both hunting and competition and it would be unjust to force the surrender of such firearms due to the actions of a terrorist. Knee-jerk reactions equal unintended consequenses of the worst kind.

Banning items such as guns only glorifies them more for the wrong reasons to the wrong people.Knee jerk reactions will lead to more distain and bitterness at a time where logic and learning needs to take place.
