Shooters call for an inquiry into the Christchurch terror attack

I feel deeply for the families in Christchurch. I feel that laws are in place to punish the guilty, not the innocent. If laws were in any able to prevent this from occurring then it wouldn’t have occurred in the 1st place. Knee jerk reaction policies are not what NZ requires. Level headed decisions after investigations have been completed. Australia may have created restrictive gun laws but this didn’t prevent an Australian from traveling elsewhere to carry out their evil business plan. Stop, think and assess.

A fair an open and transparent inquiry befitting New Zealand , no knee jerk reaction and hasty response, all failings must be addressed , New Zealand deserves this to show the workd why we have had a good record till this individual came to our shore to create division , to act too quickly will give this terrorist the platform he has openly stated , let the world see how New Zealand is an example or how we are a inclusive community in every thing we do , without including us in a fair and transparent enquiry it has the potential to create a division between legal law abiding and sensible gun owners and public , government and police , this is not us!

I have no problem with law review but not knee jerk, vote seeking change with out consultation. You cannot legislate for idiots and Its a shame that the minority (or likely one off) can spoil it for the majority.

Bad people will continue to make horrific choices, regardless of whether they have "legal" access to guns or not. If they don't, they will still find a way. Hunting is a huge part of our countries culture and changing the gun laws would affect thousands of people who mean no harm.

Tragedy is not a blank check to pass what ever ill conceived laws you want...

A calm and in depth and honest investigation is needed to avoid unintended consequences that will have the opposite effect of what needs to be done.

Don't rush into changing gun laws. Look at Venezuela. ..

Not a firearms owner, but those who have followed the law do not deserve to be punished.

Law changes can have serious consequences and should not be made on emotional impulses

I'm all for gun law changes but not out right bans on certain types, law abiding licence holders aren't the problem,

A great big YES to tightening up the sale ,availability and types of firearms available, but as a 40 year veteran of gun ownership I fear for the loss of privilege due to an uninformed , knee jerk reaction. Listen to experts in the field, listen to the over 1/4 million users who aren't nutters and make some good laws.

Knee jerk laws are bad laws. Take the time to change laws for the good of NZ and not to just score votes.

Definitely do not need a knee jerk reaction. There are sensible changes to gun laws that are overdue. But there were many contributing factors that all combined together last Friday in this horrible religious / racially motivated attack.

I feel we sre rushing and will have an emotionally based decision rather than an intelligent fact based one. I am not a villain but are being made to feel like one.

I support the review of current gun laws. Suggestion: MSSA purchase after 5 years of A cat with no bad record. I'm also target shooter so support use of semi auto for license holders and hunters. Outright ban is a form of collective punishment base on the behaviour of one license holder.

Do not deprive law abiding firearms owners of their sport please. An outright ban on semi autos would potentially drive tens of thousands of semi auto rifles underground. Restrict the import and sale of high capacity magazines. except for 3 gun shooters. Improve firearms application vetting and background checks.
