Don’t penalise the good gun owners, gangs should be targeted and be made to register all their weapons

It's not about guns. Guns don't shoot or kill. It's the person behind it.
I reject being under general suspicion, of being a criminal. In the third Reich they practiced such.
IWhat's with the law: "Innocent till proven guilty"?
Mrs Ardern the way you act seems very hasty.
You haven't even checked on the officials omissions! I wonder how such a known psychopath could obtain a firearms license. The Australian they known him. Why not us?
Such acting is undemocratic and highly suspicious.
From my point of view.
You are the PM. That meant, you are first servant of your people. Not their ruler. You have to treat all of your people just. Not to patronize us.
We are a free people in a proud nation.
Again, I deeply reject any theft of my personal freedom because of the deeds of thirds.
Thomas Jefferson once said: "Who gives away his freedom in order to achieve security, will not get the desired. However, he doesn't deserve his freedom in the first place!"
One way to make sure might be, the courts will punish fire arms offender accordingly to the law. Our existing laws are sufficient and good.
Alone they need to be used. What's not the case all over.
Criminals getting a slap on the wrist. While you changing the law on law abiding citizens.
"When you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns!"
Please consider you action and don't make hasty decisions.
Don't be pushed from people with maybe an agenda.
Use reason and common sense. Please.
Sincerely yours
Edgar Reichardt.

ALL FAL holders & shooters REGARDLESS of sporting activity should support each other against this government move to ban specific types of firearm - this knee jerk reaction will affect hunters, game bird shooters, pistol club members, 3 gun shooters, pest controllers, service rifle shooters, collectors and yes even deer stalkers and we should ALL stick together. We have huge investments in our gear and we should not lose it because of one psychopath and an inappropriate .gov response! We should not be trying to save our own individual sporting disciplines, because once one type of firearm is banned they will chip away at the rest - just like in the UK... Any shooter or FAL holder agreeing with a ban on specific types of firearms is short-sighted and self-centred.

Taking any firearms off of law abiding citizens will only leave the guns on the hands of the criminals

I've read some great comments so far in this petition, the Government needs to stop & take a breath before penalising "the above board" gun community, lets fix the problems that exists within out gun laws not dig a big hole & bury our heads along with our guns as the Australia Government did!!!! Please lets get this Right!!

Please don’t let the actions of 1 total lunatic be compared to the 250,000 law abiding vetted firearms license holders. We are not the bad guys here, just people that have an interest in a sport.

I agree! Democracy needs to be on point here. Not fair for all the law abiding firearm owners, who are responsible and work all within the arms act and law. I feel for chch and the community damaged and impacted by this terrible attack, but I also feel a lot is been rushed and pushed within the media and government before the public and even the politicians understand the fire arms act and the majority of legal fire arm owners point of view.

It is imperative to the future credibility of the current government, to follow the correct consultation process with licence holders who have the knowledge, before any completely counter productive laws are rushed through.

Ban any high capacity magazines including the 100 round drums sold to anyone without a license on line and any mag that is capable of physically holding more than 7 rounds. E cat parts and guns registered with yearly checks.

I am totally against this knee jerk reaction of the Labour party. We need proper consultation with the public over this matter. Every person over a certain age deserves the right to lawfully own firearms.

Look at restricting high capacity magazines, patterned for semi-auto receivers to E-Cat licence holders for a start.

You poison all our bush and nations hunting blocks to try stop people hunting and now oh look another way to stop people of New Zealand having firearms. Will we have to pay more tax to have a firearm or to hunt on doc land next ?
