Shooters call for an inquiry into the Christchurch terror attack

New Zealand had longarm registratration for many years before she wised up and abolished the registry in the early 1980's after the NZ governments own findings revealed that in all the years that registration had existed the registry had never so much as helped to solve a serious crime much less prevent one and had onl;y served to squander many billions of dollars in public monies and police man hours that could have been better deployed elsewhere. Australia's headlong rush into a mass beat up on the sporting shooters and military collectors of the Australian firearm fraternity has not been anywhere near as effective or even popular with the public as John Howard fondly imagined it would be and the issues still festers like an infected wound in Australian politics. So even in Australia thid battle is by no means over.

Im a law abiding 63 year citizen with zero convictions and dont wish to be considered a dangerous person.

Sensible law not rushed law. Thousands of good decent kiwis interest, hobby, passion and culture is riding on this

why do you rush through something that needs debating? you cannot decide in one day such a complex issue of which you are ignorant?

Dont let the actions of a mad man define the rights of the law abiding citizens.

Why is it the implement that is almost always thought to be responsible. It is an inanimate object that requires the input of a human to achieve their desired outcome, whether that be for good or bad.

Please use common sense in this review and don't let emotions rule your decisions, after all we don't want bad legislation introduced again. Please don't punish us -the law abiding citizens and legitimate firearms owners. Its like saying there are drunk drivers around so we will remove cars and licenses from the legal law abiding citizens

None of this is 'reform' is fair or reasonable. People are way to ready to affix blame to the simplest target and to distracted to think things through.

My hope is that this tragic event will not be cynically used to implement laws based on people control ideology.

We live in an age where people can 3d print firearms. They can't be removed from society so people should be allowed to procure less than lethal devices so at least they can defend themselves during terror attacks.

please don't make decisions using emotion. Allow time to enable decisions to be made using sound judgement and reason.

Politicians have been aware there were loop holes in the law for many years but chose not to act. This needs a proper and considered approach as we risk making things worse if bad legislation is introduced again.

Dear PM, Please don't punish us - law abiding citizens and legit firearms owners as at the moment it seems like we are being demonized and punished for something we did not commit. It seems like we are being punished even before the accused terrorist! Please don't rush it and before making any quick and potentially very risky changes to the existing gun law complete the investigation and the inquiry into the terrorist attack in Christchurch.

Law should state that all gun owners will have to belong to a registered gun club for the type of gun I.e shotgun clay target club - rifle deer stalk

Less hast and a little more thought as to how you intent to amend the fire arms laws of NZ. The knee jerk reaction you are proposing will only satisfy the immediate public and the long term problems of mental health will still remain. Firearm registration sounds good but impossible to maintain as per the Canadian government example. It just feels good to the authorities. Take recommendations from shooters as they are the ones that will make this work or fail!

Read the shooter's manifesto - if you can even get it. (it can still be found on line with some searching). This left wing government are giving him exactly what he wants as he himself stated and had planned all along. He anticipated a knee jerk reaction by the left to ban guns and deny the rights of shooters and silence any right wing voices or discussion, all in an attempt to trigger division and civil war (in the US.. The shooter believes NZ shooters will just roll over and take it rather than revolt or refuse compliance).
