It is clear that changes need to be made but knee jerk legislation without consultation is undemocratic.

I don't think at railroading decision it called for should be open for puplic debate or are we under communist rule?

Definately a rushed decision with uninvestigated facts to base a new law, or amendment to a current law, on.

This disaster caused largely through current "govt" incompetence and stupidity. The only answer this "govt" has is the usual knee jerk stuff by creating yet more gun laws to punish the legitimate and responsible gun owner in this country. Same old chestnut. Not to mention all the pandering and sucking up to the ignorant public and the Muslim community. Hopefully the Muslim community will see through all this insincere garbage for what it is, a huge point scoring effort and disregard it.

Let’s do this correctly. So it can’t happen again!

We deserve to know the truth because this is looking like it was 100% the fault of government incompetence .. not the gun owners of NZ.

What happened in ChCh was wrong on so many levels. And my sincere condolences go out to all affected by it. But let’s also remind ourselves that this was an act of TERRORISM, committed by a demented FOREIGN individual. Are the general public of NZ stupid? How many good, sensible, law abiding licensed firearms holders are there in NZ? It would surely not be too difficult to source weapons illegally anywhere in the world by some idiot. Or use other methods to commit atrocities as we have seen overseas recently..watch this space people, I predict some rash, & radical political manoeuvring is about to make history unless calm & common sense is restored, and proper consultation is used in the process of reforming laws.

After a sad day of the attack, comes another one. A day the government punishes lawful gun owners for the acts of a foreign terrorist.

What happened in Christchurch last friday was horrifying and awful, every person has the right to be and feel safe in New Zealand and as such I want changes to be made to stop this happening again. In my opinion there were a number of factors that contributed to how last fridays events managed to take place. The first being that there is a loophole in the law where anyone can buy high capacity magazines (without a licence even) I think these should be only available to a person who has been through the extra process, vetting and checks of gaining their E endorsement and shows this card upon purchase. If this were the case he would not have had access to the means of turning his A cat firearm into an MSSA as he wasn't endorsed to use MSSA's. Secondly I feel there has been a failure by our national intelligence/security team for not even picking up on the red flags and subsequently not monitoring this guy. And third I have heard reports of a man who reported Tarrant to his arms officer as well as some others at the club who weren't acting in a fit and proper manner. Had this been done correctly that should have triggered at least a bit of further checking on him, potentially uncovering his intentions. So a failure by police to act on a report has also been a contributing factor. Not to mention some of the reports of failures in his vetting process I am seeing media reports of Jacinda and the rest of the group involved approaching this the wrong way and I believe an outright ban on MSSA's would be a bad idea in a number of ways. There is too much potential for many them to end up on the black market if they are banned outright. Not to mention the many legitimate uses for them such as 3 gun and service rifle competitions, pest control, hunting and collections of historic relics. There needs to be a thorough investigation completed and consultation with experts to properly identify and fix all contributing factors to prevent this happening again.

The police vetting process was a cock up, if they had done the job properly it may not have happened in this manner.

All evidence I have seen suggests this shooter bypassed the proper police screening process. It is the person at fault, whatever weapon he may have access to does not limit the ability to kill. This knee-jerk emotive legislation will only hurt over 250,000 law abiding citizens

Guns don't kill people people kill people. Anything from paper to a plastic tea spoon can be called a weapon.

Knee jerk reaction is inappropriate. Stop the political positioning and think about your actions based on evidence gained over a period of time.

And release the full writings of the shooter

Firearms do not kill people, people kill people. More arms offices needed and more attention put into the vetting process. All firearms clubs, hunting clubs etc need to more vigilant towards members and attitude, beliefs and morals. If threating behavior is observed or heard then action must be taken. Some times it's just a simple chat to the person. If that fails and there is concern then it should be reported. Remember not all members of the public are educated on firearms and the way they are used in this country, hunting , sport , farm tool. If we conduct ourselves properly and converse with the public about what the correct way of using firearms is then maybe we can change the overall opinion of firearms.
