We need a common sense approach

why are you punishing legal vetted firearms users for the actions of 3 idiots. That is wrong and not representative of the firearms community. bring back the death penalty for these offenders and bring in 5 years mandatory in prison for any and all crime where firearms were used.

Gun law reforms won't fix the problem. Guns aren't the problem here. As we have seen in Europe where firearms are extremely restricted, it has not stopped acts of terror or hate. From bombing subways and busses to driving vehicles thru crowds of innocents to using simple kitchen knives, hate and extremism has no respect of human life, much less gun laws. How come it took the police so long to respond? Why did Australian authorities not "know" this guy like earlier terrorists were "known by authorities"? How did the official complaint made by a member of the public go unheard by police a couple of years ago? How did this guy manage to post his intentions online in a 37 page rant and not get picked up on beforehand? How did he stream for so long before he attacked and how did it take police 20 minutes from the 1st call to respond??? These questions MUST have real answers because this is looking to be the fault of our own authorities. If you refuse to answer I'm sure there would be many that could easily go down the conspiracy Track just like with 9/11...

I condemn the actions of the Christchurch terrorists or any terrorist for that matter. What happened was wrong, cowardly, and despicable. But, how does one legislate against an ideology? Against an individual whose thought processes has been corrupted? More laws will not stop another attack from happening. More firearms will go underground where criminals will have more access. Calm down, investigate thoroughly and address the issues appropriately. If it is police incompetence that brought about the issuance of a firearms license to an unfit individual then deal with that. If it was intelligence and security services -- give them the appropriate powers to monitor suspected individuals. If it was well and truly caused by the Arms Act then review the law and make changes. We want you not just to do anything to appease heightened emotions and hysteria. We want you to do the RIGHT thing. Please do not fall into the trap of the terrorist by doing exactly what he predicted - dividing society. Do not penalise 250-thousand New Zealanders and their families -- your own people -- because of the actions of a deranged foreign national. LFOs are one of the most law abiding citizens of this country. We follow the law as we have heaps to lose. Do not penalise the wrong people. Numbers do not lie -- the vast majority of firearms incidents were committed by criminals without a license. Act, but act against the right issues. Otherwise, we can only expect another incident in the near future.

Changing laws that affect 250,000 people who use firearms for hunting, pest control and sport will not work. What happened is a tragedy but no changes to law are required. What is required is the issue of mental health and its low priority in the health sector.

Know is not the time for political points scoring and reacting with out logical clear data and information that is public and not tainted.

There are some deep and dark secrets which MUST be exposed to the bright light of inquiry.

We need to understand all the factors and not get bogged down by focusing on only one aspect as seems to happen when these tragedies occur.

Consult with people who have true knowledge and experiance, not self proclaimed experts and so called academics . There is no ''radical gun lobby'' as mr Cahill puts it, just regular licenced firearms users trying to put reason and sense in to a very one sided crusade against firearms driven by sensationalist scaremongers and others who are totaly without practical experiance or knowledge of the subject.

All information needs to be made public

To make our country safer we need to approach this with clear level heads and be well informed.

We need to know what happened here so we can make suitable law changes if appropriate.

The unintended consequences of bad gun law is more guns in the hands of criminals

Not only were Muslims Targeted, But New Zealand Life in general and our gun laws. When has a democrat government every given into a terrorist, There has to be some change, but a knee jerk reaction is not what is required here, there has to be a full investigation of the shortfalls before reaction is taken
