We, the taxpayers and voters of Greene County urge our elected county representatives to please vote NO to bond $51.4 million on a new jail. Greene County needs to fully explore sharing a jail with Columbia County to prevent a massive debt burden for 30 years plus.
The prospect of saddling our community with thirty years of debt deserves more transparency than we have seen thus far. I have spent the week gathering information on regional cooperation models that could provide a more responsible path forward. Your engagement confirms that many of us are looking for a fiscal future built on partnership rather than unnecessary expansion.

The growing momentum behind this call to explore shared facilities signals that our community is deeply concerned about long-term fiscal responsibility. It is encouraging to see so many neighbors prioritizing sustainable solutions over immediate debt. This collective focus is precisely what we need as we prepare to present our concerns to the county representatives.

$50 Mill on a jail..that feels like a big number! Based on history at Ulster Jail--cost overruns are a given. Let's try to share jail with Columbia County.
Put this out for a public vote or vote the hacks out of office!

Thank goodness crime and levels of incarcerations are dropping. We should be thinking about shrinking jails and using our money elsewhere. How about treatment for addiction? or medical/health care? Those facilities offer good jobs and help our own neighbors.

I am AGAINST building a new jail. The population of Greene County is not growing, this is a foolish waste of taxpayers money and we should share a jail ! We share a community college with Columbia County, doesn't that say something about utilizing taxes and resources wisely?!

Please don't saddle Greene County with increased taxes and a larger prison. We are trending towards lower incarceration rates-- there is no sense in spending millions when a very good shared county option is available.

I strongly urge the Legislature to join with Columbia County to commission a feasibility study for a shared jail facility, which could potentially save millions of dollars for Greene County taxpayers. Thank you.

Sharing the jail is the responsible thing to do, no jobs will be lost by sharing a jail, we need to act responsibly when looking toward the future of Greene County.

This jail is totally unnecessary and will be a blight on the community financially and culturally. It must be stopped

This is corrupt pork barrel politics at its worst. Why saddle us with huge debt, when rates of incarceration are falling?! Spend money on drug treatment and health/wellness programs for youth and elders.
