We would like to express our support of the City of Boulder Open Space Department’s Community Collaborative Group’s (CCG) Preliminary Recommendations (dated Nov. 2010), specifically regarding open space use of the Shanahan area (page 16 and 24 of the document). We believe all of the Shanahan trails (designated and social trails) should remain open and with Voice and Sight control for dogs. We access these Shanahan trails several times a week and enjoy their access. These trails are an important part of our life style and are used with thoughtful, grateful and responsible care. They are not overused and there are rarely conflicts. The social trails, such as the Fern Meadow, Fall line and Middle Shanahan trails allow for the dispersion of people and dogs and provide many loop opportunities. The Shanahan open space is a great example of successful open space use and we support keeping this area the way it is. We support these Preliminary Recommendations that leaves this area essentially unchanged from its current use.
