The school administration reversed the policy regarding outside guests for senior prom. This successful outcome recognizes the importance of the final event for our students. Please continue to monitor school communications for any updated procedural requirements.

The senior class was informed that they will not be allowed to bring outside guests to prom this year. This class has been short-changed on so many levels, due to the COVID virus. They did not get their junior prom and have not been able to be together as a class and enjoy most senior activities/bonding like normal. They've finally been given the green light to have a prom and now they cannot bring outside guests. I believe that this is short-sighted and unnecessary for the following reasons:

  1. The football season, which only ended one week ago, was allowed to happen - these players had very close physical contact with other players from other schools. How is prom any different?
  2. Due to the small size of the class, and the venue being outdoors, the maximum allowed number of guests would not be reached by state standards.
    1. State regulations limit 150: https://www.mass.gov/doc/appendix-to-covid-19-orde...
  3. Prom is on the last day of school for the seniors. They will therefore not be back at school after prom.
  4. The guests that these students want to bring are close enough contacts to the students already. Students are already hanging out with them on a regular basis. There is no greater threat to the Quaboag school population than there already is.
  5. Guests could be required to bring a negative COVID test or do a rapid test on site before entering.

Please show your support of the senior class and sign this petition in support of permitting outside guests under normal school guidelines!

Updates

April 30, 2021

The administration has received our formal request for a meeting regarding the guest policy. I am currently gathering additional documentation to support our stance on the outdoor venue capacity. Thank you for continuing to engage with this effort.

Let these kids have their prom & they should be able to bring who they want! What if it’s their significant other? They should be able to dance and experience prom with them and friends or who ever they decide to bring, plus it’s not like it makes a difference with it only being the kids from their own school, if Covids the issue a couple dates Or extra people is not going to matter nor will it make a difference!. Only Once in a lifetime you get a PROM. & It’s one of the best experiences that I and many had In highschool plus it’s nice to look back on those memory’s! ♥️ Especially for seniors, it’s their last year and they don’t get another chance to have one! Help make this happen!

You are only a senior once and their junior year was basically taken away from them. Let them enjoy the last hurrah. If you, the school administration, think the students are not interacting with other students or family outside of QRHS your only fooling yourselves.

I fully support allowing the seniors to have guests from outside the school. By the time the Prom happens many of Covid restrictions are being lifted. Give the kids the time to be somewhat normal!

I don't have any kids in school, I would still like to see them all enjoy the prom...

as a senior from north brookfield who won't have a prom, let them live. we missed out on so much, kids hang out after school either way, the end of last year and all of this year was stripped of away from all of us, don't take the one thing we'll have besides graduation!

I agree. Maybe they’ll concede if the guest has been vaccinated? That might be an option. But either way I agree that they should be allowed to bring their guests.

Let the kids be kids. The real world is far to COVID miserable. Let them have one night of magic before they enter the big mean world.
