I started this petition as I sit in a hotel room in Angola, unable to go home to my family as the local authorities have my passport to renew a visa. They have had the passport since August 11th.
Time and time again this happens to seafarers world over but lucky ones can go home as their government allows two national passports.

Seeing the momentum behind this issue proves that I am not the only sailor stuck in a hotel room waiting on bureaucracy while my family waits at home. Knowing that so many of you understand the urgency of this policy change gives me the strength to keep pushing until we are finally treated with the same fairness as our international counterparts.

My husband has been stuck in hotels for weeks waiting on visas way too many times. Canada needs to get with the times already.
Losing out on work because of a piece of paper is a joke. Other countries figured this out years ago.
Been there. Nothing worse than being stuck in a random country without your docs just because the gov wants to be difficult.
Just let them have the second passport so they can get home to their families. It shouldnt be this complicated.
Absolutely insane that we are the only ones left dealing with this archaic rule. Fix it now.

this is ridiculous. why make it so hard for hardworking people to do their jobs? get it together gov.
